SHOP SMALL IN LEICESTER

Sponsored post in partnership with American Express®

Hey everyone! Being brought up in a small town, I've always been a fan of small businesses and supporting their growth. Small shops, restaurants and cafés really help build the character of an area, often going above and beyond to serve customers and offering exclusive signature products or added touches of customer service which keep me, and other loyal customers going back again and again.

With Christmas fast approaching, there’s no better time to start ‘shopping small’ to get your hands on those personal, thoughtful gifts that won’t be found elsewhere, discovering new tastes, flavours and experiences at the cafés, restaurants and bars, all whilst supporting the local community.

We're coming up to Small Business Saturday this week, a day when people across the country are encouraged to get out and support their local small business. That's why I'm extremely excited to have teamed up with American Express, founder and ongoing supporter of the initiative, to show you all exactly why 'shopping small' is a great way to pick great gifts for friends and family this Christmas, and all year round. I’ve chosen six of my favourite small businesses in the Leicester so I can share their signature products and services with you:

 Gelato Village

Gelato Village offers a little taste of Italy in the centre of Leicester. It opened in 2014, perfect timing as this coincided with my first trip to Rome which resulted in serious Gelato withdrawal. Not only did it help me beat my Italy blues but it’s become my go to place for when I’m craving authentic Gelato and I cannot get enough of the Pistachio Gelato made using milk from a local dairy.

Karinas Flower Studio

There’s something about buying and receiving flowers that makes me really happy, the colours and smells always lift my office room and it’s always amazing finding a florist who understands that feeling too. Karen, the florist at Karinas Flower Studio has been working at the store for over 20 years, and creates everything from lavish bouquets to beautiful bespoke arrangements for loved ones or as a gift to yourself. As a signature piece, Karen creates a beautiful Orchid Corsage, which is great for weddings or proms

Deli in the Square

Situated in the heart of St Martins Square, Deli in the Square house over 60 different cheeses sourced from small artisan producers. Cheese glorious cheese! With this much choice, a little help is needed and the staff here are great at lending a helping hand with their expertise. We selected a trio of cheeses to accompany some crackers and chose the Perl Las, Cornish Yarg and Durrus that would make the ideal cheese board for parties.
